A Minecraft player uses the new pointed dripstone block to build a functional guillotine, which is strikingly reminiscent of a real-life one.

Dripstones
Dripstones - A determined and respectable yet slightly terrifying Minecraft player came up with a functioning guillotine design based on a pointed dripstone. Dripstones will be officially added to the base client of the game once the anticipated Caves & Cliffs update finally releases.

Caves & Cliffs
Caves & Cliffs - While the Caves & Cliffs update is still unavailable in Minecraft in its entirety, Mojang keeps releasing dedicated snapshots on a regular basis. Such updates usually contain a slice of the upcoming new content, which can be tested by players before an official launch. One of the latest snapshots, for instance, offered the first look at some of the new natural underground structures, introducing so-called “cheese and spaghetti caves.” While the former is reminiscent of a piece of Swiss cheese due to numerous holes and pockets, the latter look like long and curly pasta-shaped tunnels.
A functional design of a working Minecraft guillotine - On Reddit
A functional design of a working Minecraft guillotine - On Reddit, user rishonathan shared a functional design of a working Minecraft guillotine, which uses Redstone contraptions to drop a pointed dripstone on a player’s head. The required stalactites can already be used in Creative mode thanks to regular snapshot releases full of upcoming features. In the video, the builder of the scary machine uses the old trapdoor trick to position the character model horizontally and then proceeds to show the working process in the third person. While the author had to demonstrate the functionality of the device on themselves, the mechanism can obviously be triggered separately by a dedicated operator to use it on a different player. It’s a clever way to enhance role-playing experiences on medieval-themed Minecraft servers or even use in mob farms if there’s any practical sense in doing so.

PROS

There are two ways to get these blocks. One is by killing an Elder Guardian. The other is to explore the Ocean Monuments.

CONS

You can find around 30 wet sponges in each room. After gathering the wet sponges, they will need to be smelt with any fuel or to be dried to become regular sponges. One way to dry the wet sponges instantly is to place them in the Nether.
